Walmart Expands Online Marketplace with New Categories

Walmart is expanding its online shopping options to compete with Amazon by adding new categories to its Marketplace.

Walmart announced that it is introducing three new categories to its Marketplace: premium beauty products, second-hand items like luxury fashion and electronics, and various collectibles.

These changes were unveiled earlier this week during Walmart’s "Let’s Grow! 2024 Marketplace Seller Summit." The Walmart Marketplace is a platform that allows third-party sellers to list their products on Walmart.com alongside Walmart’s own inventory. According to Walmart, Marketplace sales have increased by over 30% in the past year, and the number of sellers using Walmart.com grew by 20% last fiscal year.

Key Changes in the Marketplace:

  • Premium Beauty Products: Walmart is launching a new section for high-end beauty brands, featuring more than 20 names such as COSRX, T3, and Beachwaver, along with a range of skincare, hair care, and hair tool products.

  • Used Items and Luxury Fashion: A new category, "Resold at Walmart," will offer over 5 million pre-owned items from more than 1,700 sellers, including luxury fashion, electronics, sporting goods, and more. Walmart already offers refurbished electronics and small appliances under the "Walmart Restored" collection.

  • Collectibles: The "Collector Shop" will feature a variety of collectibles, such as action figures, dolls, trading cards, sports memorabilia, comic books, records, and musical instruments. It will also allow for pre-orders on high-demand items.

Additionally, Walmart is implementing several supply-side enhancements to make it easier for sellers to reach customers through its Marketplace.
