Jimbo Fisher Eager to Return to Coaching: Eyes Next Season's Opportunities
Former Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher expresses his interest in returning to coaching next season. The experienced coach is looking for the right opportunity to get back on the sidelines.
Jimbo Fisher, the former Texas A&M football coach, isn’t ready to leave the coaching world just yet. In a recent interview with news, Fisher said he’s open to returning to coaching next season.
“There’s only so much hunting and fishing you can do before you want to get back in,” Fisher joked during the interview on Monday.
Fisher, who led Florida State to a national championship, plans to spend this year studying game films. He’s hoping to find the “right opportunity” to return to coaching next season.
“I miss the relationships with the players and the daily interactions,” Fisher said. “Of course, I miss the games and competition, but the day-to-day experience with the team is what I really miss.”
Fisher coached Texas A&M from 2018 to 2023, achieving a 45-25 overall record and a 27-21 record in SEC games. Despite high expectations, including being presented with a “national championship” plaque when he started, things didn’t go as planned. Texas A&M decided to part ways with Fisher 10 games into the 2023 season, giving him a $77.5 million buyout.
At 58, Fisher still feels he’s got plenty of coaching left in him. “I’m still young enough,” he said. “I’ll be ready to get back into it soon.”
