"Has There Been an Evolution?": Psaki Questions Second Gentleman on His Role in Redefining Masculinity

Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki interviewed Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff on Sunday about his influence on reshaping perceptions of masculinity.

Recently, Emhoff has made several media appearances to support his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris. During his conversation on "Inside with Jen Psaki," he discussed his commitment to "doing the right thing" and supporting women when asked about his role in transforming traditional views of masculinity.

Psaki remarked, “There’s been a lot of discussion about how your role has changed perceptions of masculinity. While you might not have planned for that, you are clearly a very supportive spouse. Has that been an evolution for you? Do you see that as part of your role as First Gentleman?”

Emhoff responded, “It’s interesting—I’ve always been this way. My dad was the same. To me, it’s just the right thing to do: support women. Kamala and I have a mutual respect; we always have each other’s backs. I’ve often said that when we empower women, we’re addressing critical issues like pay equity, childcare, and family leave, especially in today’s challenging landscape.”

He emphasized that women "should not be less than," asserting that when women succeed, families and the economy thrive as well.
