13-year-old boy brought loaded gun to middle school in north Alabama, police say
A 13-year-old boy is facing felony charges after bringing a loaded gun to his middle school in north Alabama on Thursday. Madison police said they responded to a report on Wednesday night of a child carrying a firearm at a local apartment complex.
Although officers did not confirm the presence of a gun at the time, they alerted the school resource officers at Liberty Middle School, where the boy is enrolled. On Thursday morning, the school staff and resource officers made contact with the student and conducted a search.
During the search, a loaded 9mm handgun was discovered on the student. The weapon was seized as evidence, and the boy was arrested. He has been charged with "certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm," a felony under Alabama law.
The juvenile, whose name has not been released due to his age, was taken into custody at the Neaves-Davis Juvenile Detention Center. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
No additional details have been provided at this time.
