Presbyterians to Sell South Alabama Headquarters in Daphne for Nearly $700,000
The Presbytery of South Alabama is selling its headquarters in Daphne for nearly $700,000 to downsize and invest the proceeds in supporting their ministries in new ways.
The Presbytery of South Alabama, a regional branch of the Presbyterian Church (USA), is planning to sell its headquarters located on the Eastern Shore Parkway in Daphne. The presbytery, which serves 21 churches with around 3,000 members, including the Government Street Presbyterian Church in Mobile and Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope, has decided to downsize.
According to Rev. Bob Madsden, the regional presbyter (top executive) for South Alabama, the decision to sell the building was made because the office space was larger than needed. The building, which has been the presbytery's office since it was built in 1994, will be sold to free up capital. The proceeds from the sale will be invested, with the funds being used to support the presbytery's ministries in new and creative ways.
The building was listed for sale on July 17 at a price of $699,500 and currently has a pending contract. "A potential buyer is doing their due diligence," Madsden said, noting that there aren't many similar properties available in Daphne.
The presbytery staff is moving to the Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church. The presbytery’s library of research materials and curriculum has been offered to local congregations, ensuring that these resources continue to be used for similar work.
The decision to sell the building was approved during a meeting in June, where the plan was presented and agreed upon.
