New Construction in Huntsville Surges Past $248 Million Since Mid-August

In just a few weeks, officials issued 417 building permits, according to Report Construction. Huntsville alone accounted for 247 permits valued at $160 million, while Decatur followed with $53 million, Athens with $22 million, and Madison with $13 million.

Among those, 29 projects topped the $1 million mark, underscoring just how much money is pouring into everything from logistics hubs to medical centers and even custom homes.

The Biggest Project: Huntsville Logistics Center

The crown jewel of this latest construction wave is a $48 million facility at the Huntsville Logistics Center, located at 29424 Withers Spring Drive in northwest Huntsville. Another smaller permit worth $1.5 million was also issued for the site.

The project, led by Alston Construction, is just the beginning. More than $200 million is expected to be invested as the logistics complex is built in phases near Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, the Amazon Fulfillment Center, and Polaris in Limestone County. Once complete, the site could employ over 700 workers, cementing Huntsville’s position as a regional hub for advanced manufacturing and distribution.

Healthcare Expansion: $37 Million Clearview Cancer Institute

The second-most expensive permit belongs to Clearview Cancer Institute, which is building a $37 million, 50,000-square-foot medical facility in southeast Decatur at 1626 6th Avenue.

Designed by Chapman Sisson Architects and built by Robins & Morton Group, the two-story center will feature labs, radiation and imaging areas (including MRI suites), and expanded space for patient care. With Clearview already serving about 2,600 new patients annually at its existing Decatur site, this expansion is designed to meet a rising demand for cancer treatment in the Tennessee Valley.

Robins & Morton, notably, is no stranger to high-profile projects. The firm is currently behind the $150 million Huntsville Hospital Madison Tower expansion and is also working on upgrades to the Huntsville International Airport terminal and concourse.
