Lake Mary, Florida wins Little League World Series over Chinese Taipei in extra innings on walk-off bunt, error
In the 2024 Little League World Series, the decisive play in the championship game wasn’t a walk-off home run, a thrilling line drive, or a tense strikeout with the bases loaded. Instead, it was a bunt.
With the game tied 1-1 in extra innings, Hunter Alexander of Lake Mary (Florida) Little League executed a bunt down the first base line. The initial goal was to advance teammate Lathan Norton from second base with no outs, but the play resulted in much more.
Chinese Taipei’s pitcher, Chiu Wei-Che, charged off the mound, fielded the ball, and threw it to first base in an attempt to get the out. However, due to a miscommunication, the first baseman was not at the bag. As a result, the pitcher’s throw landed in an empty spot, allowing Norton to score the game-winning run and secure a 2-1 victory for Lake Mary.
