Green Party vice-presidential nominee Butch Ware expressed opposition to allowing biological men to compete in women's sports in a video that has been circulating on social media.
The Green Party typically aligns itself to the left of the Democratic Party, often advocating for social justice and diversity, including issues related to gender identity. However, in a video shared on X, Ware described allowing biological men to compete with women as “unfair,” a stance that seems at odds with the party's established platform.
According to the Los Angeles Times, several college teams opted to forfeit matches against San Jose State University’s women’s volleyball team due to the presence of a biological male on their roster. In a match on October 10, the transgender player reportedly spiked a ball that hit a female player from San Diego State University in the face, as reported by the New York Post.
In a related incident, North Carolina high school volleyball player Payton McNabb suffered a career-ending concussion when a spike from a transgender player struck her during a September 2022 match. McNabb testified about her ongoing medical symptoms in a legislative hearing in April 2023.
