Angler Wins Whopping $3.699 Million For Placing 1st Place At White Marlin Open, Only Placed 1.5 Pounds Bigger Than 2nd

Ahh, the legendary marlin. Truly one of God’s greatest creations.

The 2024 edition of the White Marlin Open, the richest fishing tournament on the planet, came to an end Saturday night in Ocean City, Maryland.

And your winner is …

Ven Poole! And for the first-place prize, the angler won a whopping $3.699 million! (RELATED: Great White Shark Rolls Up On Fishermen In Massachusetts, Attempts To Toy With Their Inner Peace)

He was fishing while aboard the “Waste Knot,” which is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. At one point, Poole caught a 77.50-pound white marlin that ended up being worth a mammoth $3.699,630.67, which was the largest payout for the White Marlin Open this year.

To make the win even sweeter for Poole, it came in dramatic fashion as his marlin only weighed 1.5 pounds more than the fish that took second place. As far as that second marlin goes, it came in at 76.00 pounds even, and resulted in that angler (Noah McVicker) getting a smooth $1,797,119.13 payday. McVicker was fishing on the “Billfisher,” which originates from Ocean City.
