Parents in the Mountain View Whisman School District in Santa Clara County are outraged after discovering that the district approved a $189,000 contract with a self-described “energy healer.”

Alycia Diggs-Chaves, the owner of Blue Violet Energy, is offering guided meditation sessions to district leadership, with each session costing a staggering $1,200.

The substantial expense has sparked concern, especially given the pseudoscientific nature of energy healing. While mindfulness and meditation are known to enhance mental health and focus, energy healing lacks medical validity.

The district admits it did not review the Blue Violet Energy website before signing the contract. Frustrated parents argue that the district should have conducted thorough research before committing such a large amount of money.

School Board Trustee Mohan Garunathen voiced his concerns, stating, “How is it justifiable to spend over $1,100 per hour on meditation sessions? I ask you: Would you spend that much of your own money on meditation? If not, how can it be acceptable to use our taxpayer dollars in this manner?”
