Portola Valley Chihuahua killed by mountain lion

On August 13, Portola Valley resident Rebecca Trevino was jolted awake at 4:45 a.m. by her dogs barking, followed by what sounded like a loud scream. When she checked her terrace, her 5-year-old Chihuahua, Sammy, was missing. Later that morning, neighbor Kerry Brown discovered Sammy’s remains in his backyard; it appeared he had been attacked by a mountain lion.

Mountain lions are known to inhabit the hills and woods around Portola Valley and are frequently spotted by locals. Brown noted that it had been six years since he last encountered remains from a mountain lion attack near his property on Palmer Lane. His property and Trevino’s on Adair Lane are connected by a shared border.
