Mobile Police Warn Businesses About ‘Federal Imposter’ Scam Risks

The Mobile Police Department is alerting businesses about a new scam where criminals pretend to be federal law enforcement officers.

Blake Brown, a spokesperson for the police, said that scammers are calling businesses and pretending to be federal agents. This scam, which usually targets individuals, is now increasingly targeting businesses.

The scammers instruct victims to withdraw money from safes or drawers and buy gift cards with it. Several businesses in Mobile have already fallen victim to these scams.

Mobile police emphasize that legitimate law enforcement agencies will never ask for payments via gift cards, CashApp, or Bitcoin. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately.

“Don’t let these scammers waste your time and money,” Brown advised.
