**Milwaukee Forced to Recount 31,000 Votes, Significantly Delaying Election Results**

Milwaukee must recount approximately 31,000 absentee ballots after a "sealing error" raised concerns about the security of the counting process, city spokesperson Jeff Fleming told the *Milwaukee Journal Sentinel* on Tuesday evening.
According to Caroline Reinwald, a spokeswoman for the Milwaukee Election Commission, the doors on the city's voting tabulation machines were not properly sealed.
Fleming stated that the recount could delay the final tally by one to three hours.
“We have no reason to believe that there was any compromise to any of the machines,” Fleming told the outlet, noting the recount was due to “an abundance of caution.”
“But because they were not fully sealed — human error — and not fully sealed, we are going to zero them all out again … and then rerun the balance that had already been processed,” Fleming concluded.
