Michelle Obama Warns Trump May Threaten IVF Access at Democratic National Convention
Michelle Obama warns that Trump's re-election could threaten access to in vitro fertilization (IVF), a key issue highlighted during the Democratic National Convention.
At the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, former First Lady Michelle Obama spoke out against President Trump, warning that his re-election could threaten access to in vitro fertilization (IVF).
“Trump is using the same harmful tactics—spreading lies and promoting hate—rather than offering real solutions that improve lives,” Obama said. She emphasized that cutting healthcare and taking away women’s rights to control their bodies, including the ability to become mothers through IVF, would harm women’s health.
U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth from Illinois echoed this concern, urging people to pay attention to what happened in Alabama. She criticized Trump, saying, “Keep out of our doctors' offices and the Oval Office.”
Duckworth warned that if Republicans win, they won’t stop at banning abortion—they might target IVF next, prosecuting doctors and invading women’s privacy.
After a controversial Alabama Supreme Court decision in February, Trump expressed strong support for keeping IVF available and urged Alabama lawmakers to ensure access to the treatment, which has become a key issue in the 2024 presidential election.
The court’s ruling stated that frozen embryos could be considered children under state law, leading some Alabama clinics and hospitals to pause IVF services.
