Ice Cream Truck Surprise at Alabama Football Practice Delights Players
Discover how Alabama football practice took a sweet turn with a surprise ice cream truck visit, delighting players and bringing refreshing treats in the August heat.
As the Alabama football practice wrapped up on Wednesday, a nostalgic jingle filled the air, one that instantly transports both kids and adults back to their childhood—the sound of an ice cream truck.
Late in the morning, just as practice was ending around noon, the ice cream truck made its way to the practice field, playing its cheerful tunes. Wide receiver Germie Bernard explained the delightful surprise, saying, "It's just rewarding us for working hard out here on the field."
The timing of the visit was no accident. It was the sixth practice of the preseason camp, the first day in full pads, and the Alabama heat was in full force. The ice cream truck visit served as a refreshing and well-deserved treat for the players.
Bernard shared that this wasn’t his first encounter with such a practice perk. While playing for coach Kalen DeBoer at Washington, Bernard experienced visits from ice cream trucks, food trucks, and a variety of other fun vehicles. "He’s bringing some of that over to here," Bernard said, noting that DeBoer, who recently took over for the retired Nick Saban, is bringing new traditions to Alabama’s preseason camp.
The introduction of these enjoyable post-practice snacks has been well received by the players. "Me personally, I love ice cream," Bernard admitted. "I’m going to go out there after I’m done with this and get me a little some."
