Recent polling data suggests Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining a slight edge over former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race.

According to the newest survey from Quantus, Harris, the leading Democratic contender, has garnered support from 47.2% of registered voters, compared to 45.9% for Trump, the Republican nominee. Approximately 7% of voters remain undecided.

“Although the race is extremely close, Harris maintains a narrow lead over Trump, within the margin of error,” noted the pollsters.

When it comes to public opinion, 48% of respondents view Harris favorably, while 49% hold an unfavorable view. For Trump, 45% have a favorable opinion, compared to 53% who view him unfavorably.

Trump shows a stronger appeal among men (52%), whereas Harris is preferred by women (53%). Age demographics reveal Trump’s support is higher among voters aged 50-64 (48%), while Harris performs better with younger voters aged 18-34 (48%). Harris also leads by a slim margin among independents, 44% to 43%.

Harris enjoys significant backing from Black and Hispanic voters, with 77% and 54% support, respectively. Conversely, Trump is favored by 53% of white voters. Among college graduates, 53% support Harris, while Trump is more popular among those without a college degree (49%). Regionally, Harris leads in the Northeast (49%) and West (51%), while Trump has an edge in the Midwest (47%) and South (50%).

The Quantus poll, conducted between August 7-8, surveyed 1,000 voters and has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

National tracking by FiveThirtyEight.com indicates Harris is ahead of Trump by an average of 2.3 percentage points, with Harris at 45.7% and Trump at 43.4%. According to the pollsters, 95% of these averages are expected to fall within this range.
