Teen Fires Shots at Dothan Park After Girl Refuses to Share Her Number, Authorities Report

A 17-year-old boy is behind bars after allegedly firing a gun at a girl in Dothan's Solomon Park, all because she refused to give him her phone number earlier that day.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Friday when Dothan police officers responded to reports of gunfire at the park located on Choctaw Street. Upon arrival, officers spotted a vehicle leaving the scene with several juveniles inside. A quick search of the vehicle revealed firearms, and investigators also found freshly spent shell casings scattered around the park.

Dothan police Lt. Scott Owens confirmed that, fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

According to witnesses and the suspect, the altercation stemmed from an earlier encounter at school, where the girl had declined to give the teen her phone number. When he later saw her at Solomon Park with her boyfriend, the teen allegedly lost his temper and opened fire with a 9mm handgun.

The 17-year-old is now facing serious consequences, as he is being charged as an adult with two counts of first-degree attempted assault. He is currently held at the Houston County Jail.

"The Dothan Police Department treats such behavior with the utmost seriousness and will ensure that anyone involved in this kind of reckless conduct is held accountable to the full extent of the law," Owens stated. "It’s a miracle that no one was injured or worse by this suspect’s actions."
