‘Little House on the Prairie’ Actress Shares Struggles with Neurological Condition
Melissa Gilbert, known for her role on "Little House on the Prairie," reveals her struggles with misophonia, a neurological condition causing strong negative reactions to certain sounds.
Melissa Gilbert, famous for playing Laura Ingalls (nicknamed "Half Pint") on “Little House on the Prairie,” has opened up about a challenging part of her childhood.
Gilbert was diagnosed with a neurological condition called misophonia. People with misophonia have strong negative reactions to certain sounds, and sometimes even visual triggers.
“When I found out that it had a name, I cried because I realized I wasn’t just a bad person,” said Gilbert, who is now 60 years old.
Some noises, like clapping, chewing, gum popping, and nails clicking, made her very angry, according to the report.
Gilbert explained that this condition affected her when she was a young child on the set of the popular TV show.
“If any of the kids chewed gum, ate, or tapped their fingernails on the table, I would feel like running away. I’d turn bright red, my eyes would fill with tears, and I’d sit there feeling absolutely miserable and guilty for feeling so much anger towards people I cared about,” Gilbert shared.
