Freshman orientation marks start of school
The new school year is upon us, following today’s orientation, which welcomed a mix of new and returning students to the Quad and other areas of the Palo Alto High School campus.
Principal Brent Kline addressed the Class of 2028 and new students from the newly renovated Quad, which had been under construction for much of the past two years. He highlighted the updated Tower Building, which now includes a new tutoring center and wellness center.
“After a summer of extensive renovations, you’re the first class to experience this beautiful new Quad,” Kline said. “The Tower Building, originally built in 1918, has been refreshed and is ready for use.”
At the start of orientation, Associated Student Body President Julian Hong announced a back-to-school dance scheduled for this Friday. Tickets will be available on the ASB website later this week.
ASB and Link Crew members guided tours for incoming freshmen and new students. Link Crew member and rising junior Talia Boneh emphasized key campus locations.
“The 800 Building is essential as it houses both history and math classes,” Boneh explained. “We’ll also highlight the Media Arts Center and the gym, since all freshmen will have P.E.”
Rising 9th grader Emilani Haloski found the tour helpful in familiarizing herself with the school layout. “It’s a relief to know where my math, English, and orchestra classes are,” Haloski said. “I’m also excited about the clubs and sports, especially swimming and possibly cross country.”
New student and rising junior Atticus Aires appreciated the open, outdoor atmosphere of the campus. “I’m really excited about this year because the campus vibe is so different from my old school in New Jersey, which was just one building. This school feels like a breath of fresh air.”
