Trump Accuses Georgia Officials of Bias, Continues Unfounded 2020 Election Claims
Former President Trump accuses Georgia officials of election bias while reiterating unfounded claims about the 2020 election.
During a speech in Atlanta on Saturday, former President Donald Trump commended three members of the Georgia State Election Board for advocating new regulations ahead of the upcoming November elections. Despite this praise, Trump persisted in making unsubstantiated claims that the 2020 election was fraudulent.
The board members in question—Rick Jeffares, Janelle King, and Janice Johnston—have pushed for rules they argue will enhance transparency. However, critics worry these rules could enable Republican officials to contest a Democratic win in the presidential race.
"Those three individuals are fantastic," Trump stated.
These Republican-appointed board members faced backlash and a legal challenge after a recent meeting where they approved two election rules, despite the Attorney General’s Office raising concerns about potential violations of the state Open Meetings Act. The board later agreed to reconsider the rules at a future meeting.
Trump also criticized Governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
"They don't want a fair election," he claimed. "In my view, they want us to lose."
For years, Trump has made baseless accusations of voter fraud in Georgia, and Saturday's speech was no exception.
"I believe I won this state twice," he told the crowd.
State and federal investigators have thoroughly investigated numerous allegations of voter fraud following the 2020 election, finding no evidence to support them. These investigations have debunked claims including votes cast by deceased individuals, counterfeit ballots, illegal ballot harvesting, and election-night ballot-stuffing.
