Harris Expands Lead Over Trump in Latest Poll
Harris leads Trump by 4 points in the latest national poll. Both candidates have strong party support, but Harris gains more favor among independents.
According to a recent national poll, Democrat Kamala Harris has increased her lead over Republican Donald Trump. The Morning Consult poll, which surveyed over 11,000 registered voters, shows Harris leading Trump by 4 percentage points—48% to 44%. There are still 4% of voters who are undecided. This is a slight improvement for Harris from last week.
Since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race at the end of July, Harris has consistently been ahead of Trump in daily tracking surveys.
Both candidates have strong backing from their parties: 90% of Democrats support Harris, while 89% of Republicans support Trump. However, Harris is gaining more support from independents, with 42% favoring her compared to 38% for Trump. The remaining 20% are either undecided or supporting someone else.
Harris’s favorability is at a record high, with 50% of voters having a positive opinion of her, compared to 45% with a negative view. Trump’s favorability has improved slightly to a negative 5, showing an upward trend over the past two weeks.
Regarding vice presidential candidates, Tim Walz (Harris’s pick) and JD Vance (Trump’s pick) both have approval ratings of 39%. However, Vance has a higher disapproval rating at 41%, while Walz’s is 36%. Vance’s favorability has recently improved from a low of negative 13.
The Morning Consult poll was conducted from August 16-18 among 11,501 registered voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 1 percentage point.
